PROJECT 2; Building and Rendering

Image
This is a process document of how I made the watch. First, I outlined the case and then I extruded it.   I then added fillets, making the bezels smoother. I made the case-back, and the dial. I used array curves, lofts, and unions to achieve this.                                    I then made the watch hands, using curves and simply extruding them.                                                                  A pre-render and wireframe of the watch. Making the oscillating weight, using two separate curves and making a Boolean difference out of them. Making screws using Helix, and pipe. Here is the crown and stem. Finished watch movement. PROJECT 2; Object Selection

For Project 2, I decided to pursue a digital fabrication of one of my watches. I have intermediate experience with watch-tinkering, albeit not advanced enough to disassemble or assemble a mechanical watch movement. I have broken down he watch to 4 key components.     And here are measurements I have taken. Overall, I believe fabricating my watch would be quite an excellent challenge; as it involves consistency and accuracy within the design to produce a visually appealing piece.

Project 1: Final Frabication

Here is the layout in Rhino of my project. Simply an ornate piece, with a rose in the middle.     Following is the physical process and fabrication of my project.         The final piece. Some notes include the usage of plywood; where I have experiemented and seen different woods for their resins and abilities within the laser cutting machine. Another is truly pushing the intricacy within the central rose piece, with lines 0.3mm in width. It was a challenge to glue, but it turned out excellent as my object has depth and interesting curves. Overall, I am happy with what I created; with this especially being one of my first times fabricating with the laser cutter.
